We at Montreat College are blessed to have an amazingly gifted faculty,
and when one of them does something that gets national attention, I hope
you'll indulge me if I'd like to brag about it!
Dr. Bill Forstchen, who has been making the past come alive for students
here at Montreat for the past 14 years, has co-authored another New York
Times best-selling book with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
Their new book Pearl Harbor: A Novel of December 8th, released on May
15, ranks #7 on this week's New York Times best-seller list. Gingrich
and Oliver North were special guests on Fox News' Hannity and Colmes
show last week discussing the book and the events at Pearl Harbor-the
show was broadcast live from Hawaii, on the deck of a battleship, during
a special Memorial Day celebration. Forstchen and Gingrich ended their
book-signing tour there in Hawaii, and they were joined on the last part
of the tour by Sean Hannity.
Dr. Forstchen's research for the novel included time spent aboard an
aircraft carrier during operations at sea as a guest of the Navy, and a
week spent in Hawaii where he flew a WWII period aircraft, following the
Japanese attack route into Pearl Harbor. In addition to his archival
work, he has made numerous visits to historical ships of the period.
Forstchen is the author of more than 40 books, including works of
science fiction, alternative history, and historical fiction. Forstchen
and Gingrich also co-authored a historical fiction trilogy about the
Civil War, and Gettysburg and Grant Comes East were also New York Times
best sellers. That series, as well as Pearl Harbor, are published by
Thomas Dunne Books.
Heart-felt congratulations to Bill on the success of this book!
Blessings,
Dan Struble, Ph.D.
